iPodia

Search, view and save Wikipedia articles.

What is iPodia?

iPodia is a Wikipedia viewer for your iPhone/iPod touch. With this application, you can view articles in an optimized layout, find certain text in the article, and save the article as a data URL for offline reading.

Japanese. Wow, iPodia is on lifehacker.com!

Articles will be shown scaled to 50%. This will make the fonts a bit blurry, but keeping the pictures small and being able to zoom into them when you need to is very useful. It lets you see more text and the layout becomes much more natural.

Wikipedia articles tend to be very long and sometimes it's hard to find the information you are looking for. But with iPodia's built-in find text feature, you can get to the interesting part in a flash. The matches get highlighted in yellow and we will scroll right to your next match.

The iPod touch's biggest disappointment for most people is the lack of downloading capabilities. iPodia uses the Picklr Engine to convert HTML web pages into bookmarkable data URLs. Picklr needs a lot of CPU power so you might have to be patient while it loads. Saving pages that are too large will cause MobileSafari to crash.

Picklr

Picklr is a project I am working on that will become available in the coming months. Picklr will be a service that will convert any kind of online content to a downloadable format for your iPod touch. Picklr embeds CSS JavaScript and images so they look exactly the same way offline. Picklr compresses the data without changing the result and maximizes the content you can save.
